Projects >> Water of Leith Walkway
The Walkway follows Edinburgh's river from the edge of the city to the docks in Leith. The scheme included developing a new visitor centre, designed so that its different sections appeal to very different sectors of the visitor market, as well as interpretation along the Walkway itself.
Move
Three sculpture commissions at key points along the route provide landmarks and reflect the heritage of that particular section of the river.
Sculpture – Sam Booth
Displays in the visitor centre include custom-made interactives that look at flood management, as well as more traditional subjects such as water power.
Exhibition design – Edward Longbottom
Graphic design in the interactives section is bright, with simple, direct text.
Illustrations – Cavan Convery
Graphic design – Andy McGregor
Along the Walkway itself, a series of bronze plaques designed by medallist Nicola Moss make a trail of rubbings.
Visitors who collected a complete set of rubbings were awarded a specially struck bronze medal.
Writer Ian Rankin opened the rubbings trail, an event that attracted the best press coverage of the entire project!
